What Grass Stage 2 actually paid, and the arithmetic nobody did
It settled in USDC rather than GRASS, it covered a window that closed in June, and the whole pool was about $3 million. Divide that by the user base and the angry posts make sense.

If you ran a node before 8 June 2026, this page has a deadline in it.
The facts, because most pages have them wrong
Stage 2 covered Epochs 1 through 19, meaning contributions between 14 October 2024 and 8 June 2026. Claims opened on 22 July 2026 at 1:00 PM EST through the Grass dashboard and close on 22 January 2027. Rewards not claimed by then expire and are kept rather than redistributed, and there is no grace period.
It paid in USDC, not GRASS. The Foundation pointed to regulatory uncertainty and wanting users in more jurisdictions to claim without friction. The practical consequence is that this distribution put no new GRASS into circulation and holding the token did nothing for your payout.
And the 170 million GRASS figure you will see quoted in most coverage is not this event. That is a separate tranche expected to enter circulation later through ecosystem incentives. Conflating the two is the single most common error in writing about this, and it makes Stage 2 sound roughly fifty times larger than it was.
The division
Stage 2 distributed approximately $3 million in USDC, funded from network revenue rather than token emissions. That is the number worth sitting with, because the obvious next step is one nobody seems to have taken.
Grass paid Season 1 to roughly 2.8 million users. Reported user numbers by mid-2026 were above 8.5 million. Divide $3 million by those two figures and you get an average somewhere between $1.07 and $0.35 per user.
Not every user was eligible, since you needed more than zero Network Points inside the window, so the real average for eligible claimants sits somewhere above the lower bound. But the order of magnitude is the point. This was a distribution measured in dollars per person, not hundreds.
Which explains the reaction. After the July holders' call, operators who had run nodes for a year or more across several devices reported USDC payouts in the single dollars. One account claimed 94 million uptime points and over 1,600 referrals for six dollars. Those are community claims off social rather than confirmed figures, so weigh them accordingly. But they are exactly what $3 million divided by millions of participants produces, and nobody needed a leak to work that out.

The claim window closes on 22 January 2027 and unclaimed rewards expire permanently. Check the Allocation tab on the official dashboard at app.grass.io. Claiming requires the in-app non-custodial wallet, secured by passkey or email OTP.
Only use app.grass.io. Grass is heavily impersonated and searching for claim instructions surfaces convincing lookalikes on free hosting, including pages dressed up as official documentation. One turned up in my own research for this piece. No legitimate claim flow will ever ask for a seed phrase. A deadline plus a wallet connection is the exact combination phishing operations are built around, and this one has a real deadline attached to make the urgency feel legitimate.
What this means if you're starting now
The Stage 2 eligibility window closed on 8 June 2026. I started my own desktop node in August, which puts me outside it entirely. Points earned today are accruing toward something that has not been announced, on terms nobody has published.
That is not a reason to avoid Grass, but it is a reason to size your expectations honestly. You are contributing bandwidth now against an unannounced future distribution, having just watched the previous one pay about a dollar a head and switch payout currency without warning. Treat the points balance on your dashboard as what it is, which is a claim on a decision that has not been made yet, rather than as money.
My own Grass row in the ledger is empty for exactly this reason, and it stays empty rather than showing a converted points balance that implies a payout nobody has promised.
Questions
Is Grass worth running after Stage 2?
Only on the understanding that you are speculating on an unannounced distribution rather than earning a rate. If you want measurable money from bandwidth, the dollar-denominated apps pay less headline and actually pay. If you want the option on a token distribution, the cost is some electricity and the risk is that the next one looks like the last one.
Why did it pay USDC instead of GRASS?
The Foundation cited regulatory uncertainty and wanting participants across more jurisdictions to be able to claim. A stablecoin payout funded from revenue also avoids adding sell pressure the way a token distribution would.
What happens to rewards nobody claims?
They expire at the deadline and are retained rather than redistributed to other users.
